范文:
University courses lay a very solid academic foundation for the futuredevelopment of college students. Facing the great selections of these courses,some people say that, history classes should be made compulsory for collegestudents, for the reason that they could be more familiar with the advancementand evolution of human society. I disagree. I believe, despite minor merits,asking student of all majors to attend history classes would cause problems.
History courses would put more academic pressure on students. Collegestudents have already had to study many theory and professional subjects relatedto their majors and their schedule is very tight. For example, a medical studentis not only obliged to finish his professional papers for credit, but he alsoneeds to find the opportunity to get clinical experience. His load is so heavythat he could not afford to take any irrelevant courses, such as history. Inthis case, schools should not add this course, because students would worrywhether they could finish their homework on time and how they would pass final examinations.
A required history course would lead to unnecessary cost for parents andstudents. To guarantee the quality of lecturing, colleges have to hire talentedand senior history professors and experts, such as those from the best-knownuniversities or history research institutes. This would increase the cost ofschooling. Normally, a lecture given by a famous history professor costs over1,000 dollars. These costs would be reflected in the tuition fee, and woulddeprive many underprivileged students of an opportunity for education.
Admittedly, taking history courses does have its merits. Students couldlearn to prevent repeating the mistakes of the past. For instance, they wouldlearn about the cause of the world wars and other bloody battles that claimedthe lives of millions. Students could also gain a better understanding ofcurrent issues by studying historical events. For example, by studying theAmerican Revolution a student could be enlightened on the current world democracy. However, this knowledge could be acquired by other method other thanrequired courses. History seminars, TV documentaries and books are all availableoptions for student to learn about history.
In conclusion, although there are some small benefits to requiring ahistory course, making every college student take a history course wouldoverburdened the students both academically and financially. In addition, thesmall advantage that a required history course would provide can be obtainedother ways.
2. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Students should not take part-time jobs when they study in university.
思路:
观点:反对
解释:只有很少的人会认为学生应该只专注于学习。
论点:1. 做兼职工作能够让大学生经济上独立;
2. 兼职工作对大学生未来的职业生涯是必要的;
3. 更多的工作经验能够拓宽学生视野。
范文:
These days, people hold an animated discussion about whether students should take part-time jobs when they study in university. Quite a few people consider that students should focus all their attention on learning but I take this viewpoint with a grain of salt. To my way of thinking, apart from their academic studies in university, students should be encouraged to take part-time jobs either outside the campus.
In the first place, part-time job gives students financial independence. Even though the money made from part time job cannot make you a fortune out at least contribute to some income. Besides by doing some part time jobs, students can not only learn how to save money but also start good financial management habits easy. Moreover, with extra income students can relieve financial burden on their parents.
In addition, part-time jobs are necessary to prepare students for future careers. Obviously, it is a good opportunity for the inexperienced students to acquire work skills. Gradually by accumulation, students become familiar with work environment. It is their good performance during this period that indicates their future success. We can safely say that part time jobs prepare students to be on track to step into society.
Lastly, some work experience can expand students’ horizons. There's a growing consensus that university should not be an isolated tower. Thus, if universities can build some social networks and created more part time job opportunities outside campus, it will enrich students’ daily life and tone down their study stress. Taking this one stop further, it is possible for students to seize the opportunity and start their own businesses.
In summary, doing a part-time job generates such benefits as financial independence, career preparation and the chance to see the world. As a result, there is no reason for students not to go for a part-time job.
